Using Git: Version Control Training for Staff and Students

Craig Alexander & Vinny Davies (University of Glasgow)

Friday 26th January 15:00-16:00 Maths 311B

Abstract

Version control through Git and GitHub is an effective tool for code development and research reproducibility. Staff members within the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Glasgow have recently developed and released a short training course that can be used by both staff and students to learn how to effectively use version control to manage their own projects and research. In this talk, we will discuss the underlying pedagogical principles behind the course and provide a general introduction to version control. We will cover some of the key concepts of developing and sharing your research in a version-controlled manner.

This talk is designed to complement our Using Git course which is available through Moodle. Links to the course material will be shared nearer the time of the presentation.
