Groups of 8-manifolds

Abstract
We introduce a group Θ8(r ) consisting of polarised simply-connected 8-manifolds whose homology is isomorphic to that of the connected sum of r copies of S 2 x S 6. The group Θ8(r ) comes equipped with an action of GL(r, Z) and a stabilisation map to Θ8(r + 1). We determine the isomorphism type of Θ8(r ), and show that the rationalisation of Θ8(r ), with the action of GL(r, Q), satisfies representation stability.
