Abstract

The abc conjecture is a statement in number theory that was firstly formulated in the late 80s by J. Oesterle and D. Masser.
In this talk we will see what led to its formulation, what is its meaning and how important it is by looking at the consequences it would have if it were proven.
Lastly we will vaguely approach some of the latest developments in this subject.
