The integral cohomology rings of the symmetric square of projective spaces.

In the 1960’s R. James Milgram described the homology groups of the symmetric products of a space. The cohomology rings, on the other hand, are difficult to compute in general, and fully known only for a few special cases. In this talk I will describe the integral cohomology rings of the symmetric square of quaternionic projective space, and of the octonionic projective line. Our methods also works for the complex case, which we plan to discuss in a forthcoming paper.
