Fusion systems in algebra and topology

Abstract
In the study of saturated fusion systems, previously independent developments in finite group theory and homotopy theory meet in concert for the first time. As a result, the different methods merge and complement each other, often in surprising ways. In this talk I will survey part of the theory of fusion systems and present some of my own results along the way.
