Maximal subalgebras of exceptional Lie algebras over fields of good characteristic.

In my talk, based on joint work with David Stewart, I will discuss the problem of classifying maximal subalgebras of Lie algebras of the form g=Lie(G) where G is a simple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field. The maximal connected subgroups of G have been classified by Dynkin in characteristic 0 and by Seitz, Testerman and Liebeck-Seitz in characteristic p>0. The problem of classifying maximal subalgebras of g in characteristic p>0 is open at the moment, but I will report on recent progress in the case of exceptional groups.
