String Operations for Orbifolds

Abstract

I begin with a gentle introduction to Goldman bracket and
Turaev cobracket on loops on a surface. Then try to generalise these
to loops on orbifolds via some simple examples and observe the special
role played by the inertia groups. I then cast the theory in the stack
language and propose a general framework for string operations on
differentiable stacks.

I'll avoid the technicalities of stacks, so the talk should be accessible
even if you do not know what a stack is.
