Abstract

p-local finite groups were defined by C. Broto, R. Levi and B. Oliver as categorical models for p-completed classifying spaces of finite groups. Although the idea behind of p-local finite groups is highly group theoretical, the technicalities involved often make it difficult to feel this group theoretical flavor in the theory. A clear example of this are homotopy fixed points of p-local finite groups, and the goal of the talk is to bring back the parallelism with group theory in this particular situation.
