Scattering for the cubic Klein--Gordon equation in two space dimensions

We outline a proof of global well-posedness and scattering for the defocusing cubic Klein--Gordon equation $$u_{tt} - \Delta u + u + u^3 = 0,$$ for real-valued initial data $u(0) \in H^1_x$ and $u_t(0) \in L^2_x$. We will also discuss a related result for the focusing case. This is joint work with Rowan Killip and Monica Visan.
