Rational blow-down and exotic smooth 4-manifolds

Abstract
After recalling a few basic facts about smooth 4-manifolds, I will discuss the rational blow-down operation. I will then use a specific example to present the main ideas and tools involved in the construction of an exotic smooth 4-manifold using this operation.
