Abstract

In this talk, we will introduce some of the basic ideas behind coarse geometry, beginning with the notion of coarse maps between metric spaces. We then move on to definitions involving coarse spaces and coarse homology theories. We conclude with a discussion of the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture, and some potential applications. This talk will be elementary, and no previous acquaintance with coarse geometry is needed.
