Abstract

Model theory is a branch of mathematical logic that uses the relationship between mathematical structures and the sentences true about them to study said mathematical structures. Examples of areas where ideas from model theory can fruitfully be applied include group theory, complex geometry, analysis and number theory. I will present some basic concepts and theorems of model theory, and explain how these can be applied to various areas of pure mathematics.
