Groupoids have proven very useful in understanding and encoding topological dynamics into C*-algebras. This point of view emphasizes the importance of *-isomorphisms which preserve diagonals or intertwine specified actions. I will emphasize how these structure preserving maps arise naturally in the study of topological dynamics (in particular, orbit equivalences) but also discuss some questions which seem to take us outside the comfortable realm of groupoids.
