Meeting of UKFN Special Interest Group on Fluid Mechanics of the Eye
The School hosted a meeting of the UK Fluids Network Special Interest Group on Fluid Mechanics of the eye on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th March. The participants worked towards understanding two new problems related to the mechanics of the eye in an informal setting.
Dialogue with Clinicians on Retinal Haemorrhage
SofTMech hosted a "dialogue with clinicians" event on the topic of retinal blood flow and retinal haemorrhage on Monday 25th March. The event brought together clinicians and modellers to discuss new approaches to understanding an impotent problem.
International CMALS Workshop
The Schools of Engineering and Mathematics & Statistics at University of Glasgow, supported by the Centre for Mathematics Applied to Life Sciences (CMALS) organized the "International CMALS Workshop on Mathematical modelling in Biomechanics" on Tuesday 19th March, held in the School of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Glasgow.
The workshop, supported by CMALS, was aimed at providing a one-day symposium where the state of the art and future perspectives concerning mathematical modelling in bio- mechanics were discussed.
1st UK workshop on probabilistic reasoning using chain event graphs
On Thursday 7th and Friday 8th February, the School of Mathematics and Statistics hosted the "1st UK workshop on probabilistic reasoning using chain event graphs" supported by the Celebrating New Appointment scheme of the London Mathematical Society and organized by Dr. Manuele Leonelli. The event included presentations by Prof. Jim Smith from the University of Warwick and Prof. Eva Riccomagno from the University of Genova. Around 20 participants attended the event, including postgraduate students and post-docs from across Europe. The School kindly supported a wine reception on the evening of Thursday 7th of February which was highly appreciated by all participants. The closing talk of the workshop, delivered by Dr. Peter Thwaites from the University of Leeds, coincided with the Statistics Weekly Seminar, thus providing an opportunity of interaction between the participants and staff and students from the University of Glasgow.
