'Candour & Communities' exhibition to visit the Royal Society of Edinburgh

14 August 2026: Scottish premiere of the Centre for People's Justice's 'Candour and Communities' exhibition at the Royal Society of Edinburgh, 5th - 13th September.
The Centre for People's Justice is proud to continue it's Candour and Communities touring exhibition, having already visited England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Between 5th and 13th September, the exhibition will arrive at the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
The exhibition explores 100 years of scandals, failings and cover ups. As Nicole Busby - Professor in Human Rights, Equality and Justice at the University of Glasgow School of Law and Convenor of the Centre for People's Justice - explains in her cover story article in the ReSourcE Spring/Summer 2026 edition (p. 12-13):
"As part of its commitment to co-producing research and public legal education with individuals, groups, and organisations outside of the university sector, the CPJ has developed an in-person and digital exhibition which explores the devastating impacts of institutional lies and cover-ups, and which highlights the opportunity for change offered by the proposed new legal duty of candour."
"Using a range of case studies, ‘Candour and Communities’ outlines how institutions which are intended to represent and support us have lied to the public and covered up those lies."
The exhibition draws connections between a series of disasters and public scandals throughout a 100-year timeline of UK history, and shares stories of those who struggled to expose the truth.
It was co-produced with the communities affected and shaped by the events featured, and as Nicole Busby shares, "the exhibition encourages members of the public to express their views on the proposed changes to the law."
GO Justice is proud to be a key university host of the AHRC-funded Centre for People's Justice, which represents a coalition of over 45 organisations from community, business, philanthropic, cultural, artistic, charitable, legal, government sectors. The CPJ pursues change-making research that responds to the public’s need and desire for fairer, stronger and more inclusive societies.
Its work seeks to connect the public more closely with the ways in which the law is made, improve accountability for how the law is put into practice, and enhance people’s understanding and use of their legal rights.
