03 September 2026: The Emma Ritch Law Clinic is shortlisted in the 'Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community' catgeory
The Emma Ritch Law Clinic has been shortlisted in the 22nd edition of the Times Higher Education Awards, for the category of 'Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community'.
As 'the Oscars of Higher Education', the THE Awards are the biggest celebration of UK and Irish higher education. This year, they received over 500 entries and we are one of 5 HE institutions to be shortlisted for this category.
The mission of the Emma Ritch Law Clinic (ERLC) is to facilitate access to justice through the provision of trauma-informed independent legal advice (ILA) and representation (ILR). It is the only law school in the UK to provide a specialist pro bono legal service to survivors of sexual violence in a criminal justice context.
Since its inception in 2023, the ERLC has delivered legal services to survivors and provided second-tier advice to advocacy workers. They have also introduced an innovative honours-level reflective course for students, delivered specialist trauma-informed training to criminal defence practitioners across Scotland, and informed policy development.
The 2026 awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 26 November at The Vox in Birmingham. Staff from the Emma Ritch Law Clinic look forward to being in attendance.
