The School of Infection & Immunity was delighted to support the University of Glasgow’s Undergraduate Open Day on Wednesday 2 September 2026, welcoming prospective students and their families to experience life at UofG first-hand.
Colleagues represented the school throughout the day, speaking to visitors at Immunology and Microbiology information stands in the Wolfson Medical School Building and answering questions about studying at Sii.
Director of Education Professor Nicola Veitch also delivered two presentations in the Boyd Orr Building offering prospective students a guide to Infection Biology degrees.
Another highlight was the school’s laboratory tours, coordinated by Professor Veitch and supported by colleagues from across Sii.
The tours attracted 50 prospective students across two sessions, with 28 attending in the morning and 22 in the afternoon.
They offered visitors a glimpse into the school’s teaching and research environment, bringing the student experience to life and showcasing the facilities available.
Professor Veitch said: "The Open Day is a great opportunity for prospective students to visit the University of Glasgow campus and speak with lecturers who will be teaching on the courses.
"This year, the School of Infection & Immunity organised research lab visits, which were welcomed by both students and parents, providing a behind-the-scenes tour of our research facilities.
"It was great to meet those who came along and we hope it inspires students to join our Microbiology and Immunology programmes."
Feedback from attendees will be gathered through the University’s Open Day evaluation process and will help inform future events.
A huge thank you to everyone who represented Sii, delivered presentations, planned and set up demonstrations, and welcomed visitors throughout the day.
