Multimorbidity PhD programme for health professionals

A new programme, led by General Practice and Primary Care's Prof Frances Mair, aims to create a new generation of innovative world-leading researchers empowered with expertise in multimorbidity, and is currently advertising for applicants
A consortium led by General Practice and Primary Care's Professor Frances Mair in collaboration with the Universities of Dundee, Edinburgh and St Andrews has been awarded £8.5M by Wellcome to support a multimorbidity PhD programme for health professionals.
Multimorbidity (the presence of two or more long term conditions) is a major global health challenge associated with higher mortality, poorer quality of life and increased health care utilisation.
The Multimorbidity PhD Programme for Health Professionals aims to create a new generation of innovative world-leading researchers empowered with expertise in multimorbidity to prevent the condition and better manage those already affected. This multimorbidity PhD programme is the first of its kind in the UK, and the biggest programme globally to date and will be supporting 34 doctoral fellows over the next five years.
The programme will offer exceptional opportunities for clinical research across the translational spectrum from examining aetiology and mechanisms, through data science and epidemiology, to applied clinical research in a unique collaborative training environment, promoting development of a critical mass of multimorbidity researchers.
The programme is now advertising with a closing date of January 10 2022. The first cohort will commence November 2022.
