Guidelines for new staff

HR contacts all new members of staff via email which details their start date and GUID (Glasgow University Identification)  All staff require this for accessing systems across the University.  These details are also forwarded to the responsible line manager, Eleanor Rae PA to the Head of School and Fiona Mackinlay, Head of Professional Services.  On receipt of this information it is the responsibility of the line manager to forward this email to the staff below to ensure a smooth streamlined transition for the new member of staff.

  • Neil Ferguson the Schools IT Technician.  Neil will then set-up email and SSD (standard staff desktop) for the new member of staff.
  • Eleanor Johnston, Finance Administrator, who will then in turn email the new staff member. They are offered the option to choose between a PC or Laptop with monitor prior to start date so arrangements can be made before their arrival at the School.  Otherwise the order will be done when the new staff member arrives and informs Eleanor of their decision. (This can be a lengthy process and result in delays therefore where possible we would encourage new staff to make their choice prior to their start date.)
Eleanor then adds IT equipment to IT Asset Register and will assign asset IDs for all IT equipment and pass IT equipment to Neil.
  • On the start date it is the responsibility of the line manager to meet and greet the new staff member or arrange a substitute in their place.
