Sarah joined the unit in March 2021 and is working with Vittal Katikireddi and Anna Pearce as part of the Inequalities programme.

Photo of Sarah AmeleAfter completing her Masters in Medical Statistics at LSHTM, she started a PhD with the Institute for Global Health at UCL and submitted her thesis last month. Sarah’s PhD research explored the impact of directly acting antiviral treatment on health outcomes of HIV/HCV coinfected individuals, using data from a European cohort study. She is very interested in using quantitative methods to explore health inequalities, in particular ethnic inequalities in health.

Sarah lived in London until last July when she moved to Lancaster. She is looking forward to meeting everyone!

Reflecting on her new role as IHW ethnicity champion, Sarah said:

"I am very excited to be joining the Athena SWAN self-assessment team as the ethnicity champion, and I am looking forward to being part of work that aims to tackle ethnic and racial inequalities that negatively impact staff and students in the institute."
