Engineers and clinicians passionate about minimally invasive endoscopy are invited to an open one-day event which will promote dialogue and a better understanding of clinician’s needs and engineer’s capabilities.
After Professor Paul Swain, a pioneer in capsule endoscopy, has set the scene with his keynote address, the event will discuss Positioning & Localisation, Uses, and Sensing & Actuators. Each part will feature two speakers approaching the subject from clinical and engineering perspectives followed by discussion and open idea sharing.
At the end of the event there will be a recap of the key findings and a summary will be distributed to all participants with follow up activity.

- Open cross-discipline dialogue
- Better understanding of clinician/engineering needs/capabilities
- Beginnings of a network
- Roadmap of actionable engineering outcomes – list of practical challenges and clinical needs
- Possible formation of joint working group

The Sonopill programme is supported by a £5m investment from the EPSRC with the aim of producing an endoscopic pill that will incorporate ultrasound, visual, fluorescence, pH and pressure sensors & systems.
As a consequence of our research, we are keen to help build strong bridges between the clinical and engineering communities. This workshop has grown out of that desire.
