Hulda Hermannsdottir
I am conducting my PhD at the School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Glasgow. I’m part of a larger laboratory: The Laboratory of Marine Diagnostics and Biotechnology, where we share the same fundamental goal of understanding what is happening in the marine environment, and translating that understanding into decisions that improve aquaculture sustainability.
I’m originally from Iceland but moved to Glasgow, Scotland, for my undergraduate degree in Zoology. Following that I completed a Master’s degree in Quantitative methods in Biodiversity, Conservation and Epidemiology, where I found my passion for statistics and modelling within ecology. My previous work has focused on hierarchical modelling to improve management approaches for terrestrial populations. My current focus however is on aquaculture, Atlantic Salmon and Seaweed in particular. I aim to utilise machine learning approaches as well as causal inference frameworks to generate interactive platforms to assist aquaculture staff in making data driven real time decisions and improve their sustainability.
