Research title: Fair Machine Learning for Search and Recommendation Systems

Research Summary

I am a PhD student at the School of Computing Science where I am part of the Information Retrieval Group. My supervisors are Professor Iadh Ounis and Dr. Graham McDonald. My research focuses on fair Machine Learning. I develop fair ranking strategies for search and recommendation systems with machine learning techniques such as reinforcement learning. I evaluate existing and self-developed strategies and techniques to ensure a suitable trade-off between user satisfaction and fairness.

Research Interests:

  • reinforcement learning
  • machine-learned ranking
  • fairness
