Research title: Institutional Determinants, Positive Deviance and SME Innovation in Emerging Economies: Evidence from the Subnational Level in China

Research Summary

Mr Jinbang Zhao is a PhD candidate in Management affiliated to the International Business and Enterprise (IBE) Research Cluster, University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School (ASBS).

Jinbang's primary research interests lie at the intersection of international business, accounting, and sociology. His ongoing research centres on the impact of institutions, comprising formal and informal components, on business strategic decision-making and activities (e.g. innovation and internationalisation), particularly in the context of emerging economies (EEs). By drawing upon an integrative view of Institutional Anomie Theory (IAT) and Institution-based View (IBV), his doctoral research seeks to further investigate and explicate how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)' innovation activities in EEs are influenced and shaped by the institutional environment in which firms are embedded. In addition, Jinbang is also interested in some accounting research themes such as disclosure quality and accounting restatement. Prior to his doctoral study, Jinbang had industry experience in auditing and banking sectors.
