Here are some top tips from UofG Chief Information Security Officer on how to protect your personal data

As we head into the new semester, I wanted to share a few tips for protecting your personal data and your devices:

  1. Click with caution: Take care when opening emails, do not click links or open attachments if you weren’t expecting them or don’t know the sender. If you see anything suspicious, report it using the ‘Report Message’ button in Microsoft Outlook, or contact the Reach Out IT team through UofG Helpdesk.

  1. Protect your devices: Don’t leave your devices unattended or unlocked. If you’re working on a shared PC, always log off before you leave.

  1. Keep your password safe: Choose a secure password of at least eight characters, including a mix of numbers, punctuation and letters in both lower and upper case. Don’t base your password on personal information, and never share it with anyone.

  1. Report any concerns: Get in touch through UofG Helpdesk if you see anything suspicious online or in an email. If you feel unsafe on campus, in halls or anywhere in between, use the UofG SafeZone app to quickly contact the UofG Campus Security team.

You can find out more about staying safe online on the UofG Information Security webpage.

Best wishes,
