UofG Library glow up
Published: 14 September 2026
Your library got a bit of a glow-up over the summer! Find out more about the UofG Library, the spaces and services on offer, and how it can help you make the most of your studies.

Hello from the Reach Out team! We wanted to share a few tips for getting started at the Library, whether it’s your first time visiting or you’re back for a new year. We also want to let you know about a few changes you might notice.
Get started at the Library

Quick Start Guide – Library Essentials
What’s new?
New Library Search
Over the summer, we upgraded our Library Search platform. It’s now easier to use and allows you to discover and request materials from Libraries around the world! (In case our 2.5 million books, 1.6 million e-books and 50,000 e-journals aren't enough...)
Try the new Library Search now.
Refurbished Library Annexe
If you’re in the University Library, you might notice some building work going on. That’s the final stage of our £23 million investment in our Library Annexe.
The upgraded Library Annexes will have:
- Much more natural light
- Dedicated power sockets for each desk
- Wider aisles and lower shelves for better accessibility
- New sustainably sourced furniture
They will also be much more energy efficient, with a 72% reduction in energy usage across the Annexes.
We’re working hard to keep disruption to a minimum, but if you’re finding it noisy, we have free earplugs available at the Welcome Desk on Level 2. You can also use the UofG Life app to find quieter alternative study spaces.
The Annexes are expected to re-open later this semester. Keep an eye on our Library News webpage and follow @uofglibrary on Instagram to be the first to know more. Important updates will also be signposted around the building.
Refreshed Library Cafe
The Library Cafe is also being refreshed! The new Cafe will offer barista-style coffees, iced drinks, pastries and freshly made sandwiches and salads.
To keep you fueled while the Library Cafe is closed, you’ll find a full wall of vending machines on Level 3 of the Library, with coffee, snacks and hot food, and there are Student Kitchens available in the Fraser Building and the James McCune Smith Learning Hub.
Upgraded Printers
All printers across our campuses have been upgraded to be more secure and more flexible.
You now need your campus card and a 6 digit PIN code to print on campus.
This extra layer of security protects your work and your print credits!
Get set up for new UofG printing.
