UKRI cross-research council responsive mode pilot scheme 2023
In early 2023, UKRI announced a new cross-research council responsive mode pilot scheme, designed to support breakthrough or disruptive interdisciplinary ideas not routinely funded through existing UKRI responsive mode schemes.
For the first round of this pilot scheme, UKRI anticipates making up to 36 awards and the process will include an outline stage leading to invited full applications. Research organisations are expected to ensure applications from their institution fit the scheme’s objectives, to prioritise diverse and distinctive ideas that tread new ground, and to help support a diversity of applicants to the scheme.
Internal assessment at the University of Glasgow for 2023 call
To fulfil these expectations, the University of Glasgow will undertake an internal assessment of research ideas being developed in response to this UKRI scheme.
Applicants are invited to submit an expression of interest summarising their interdisciplinary research idea and its fit to the objectives of the UKRI scheme by 06 June 2023 using this MS Forms link: https://forms.office.com/e/9DSriW1ee7.

Expressions of interest will be considered by an assessment panel to determine their fit to the scheme’s objectives and to identify ideas that may benefit from collaborating. The outcomes of this internal assessment will be communicated to applicants by 23rd June 2023. Applicants with research ideas that are not considered to fit the scheme’s objectives will be encouraged to further develop these ideas in preparation for round two of this pilot scheme to be launched in July 2024.
