• Develop key research leadership skills to manage teams, develop competitive funding bids, take on research leadership roles and responsibilities, and lead on research projects. 
• Deliver hands-on training, mentoring and cross disciplinary peer networking. 
• Provide seed corn funding for the piloting of research projects and external funding bid development. 

Institutions are limited in the number of candidates they can nominate for the programme and the Strategic Research Initiatives team oversees the University of Glasgow selection process.

The research theme for Cohort 2 is ‘Building a happier, healthier Scotland.’ Please note that this theme serves as an organising principle only, providing common ground for a multidisciplinary cohort. RSE hope to draw nominees from a different range of disciplines than in Cohort 1. The cohort will be formed in March 2027, with in-person activities taking place between Spring 2027-2028. 

Our selection process takes place in two stages, one at the school level and another at the institutional level. All interested candidates should contact their school's Director of Research or their College Research Support office to indicate their interest in being nominated by the University of Glasgow and for answers to any questions about school selection processes.

Each school will nominate a single candidate for submission to the institutional selection panel, who will then select the UofG candidates for this opportunity.

Timeline:

Applications submitted to internal demand management and quality management processes at the University of Glasgow are expected to comply with the University of Glasgow's Generative AI Guidance for Researchers and the Funders joint statement: use of generative AI tools in funding applications and assessment. 

All applicants should review these documents and are responsible for ensuring any application they submit complies with the guidance and parameters provided. Key points we would like to highlight from these resources include:

• Any use of generative AI tools must be accompanied by critical analysis and oversight on the part of the user
• Work that is not your own effort or is without appropriately transparent acknowledgement of sources or tools used (e.g. work submitted that is the product of Generative AI) does not meet crucial requirements for assessment or academic/research integrity
• Applicants must not use generative AI tools to generate an entire application, or sections of an application, without human involvement
• Reviewers must not input our confidential funding applications into generative AI tools to develop their reviews
