GAYE offers colleagues opportunity to contribute monetary contributions through DEC appeal

We have previously communicated how our University community can contribute non-monetary donations for those affected by the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, as well as supporting students affected, via the Hardship Fund.

University colleagues can also give monetary contributions through the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal.  The University of Glasgow partners with the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) to offer Give As You Earn (GAYE), a payroll giving scheme which enables employees to give to UK charities, straight from their pre-tax salary.  Many charities prefer receiving donations through CAF Give As You Earn, as they do not have to claim Gift Aid, allowing them to wholly focus on fulfilling their mission.  In the UK, Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) is supporting DEC charities with local partners in Ukraine and across the borders in Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova.

How Does it Work

Using the online sign-up link, simply select whether you would like to donate directly to charity each month, or whether you would like to open a Charity Account. Then select your donation amount and the UK charity you wish to donate to. All UK registered charities can be supported, as well as organisations recognised by HMRC as charitable. Once submitted, your donation will be automatically deducted from next month’s payroll.

Eligibility

You must be a salaried member of staff with a contract of employment with the University of Glasgow, or any of its wholly owned subsidiaries with a staff number.

You must be a UK resident tax-payer and your earnings would not fall below the National Minimum Wage if you were to participate.

You can find out more about Give As You Earn and the University’s response to Ukraine on our webpages.
