A round-up of news across the University

Employee and Organisational Development have spaces available on the following workshops which may be of interest to you -

Negotiating and Influencing Skills, 26 February or 11 May, 09:30-16:30

The idea behind negotiation is coming to an agreement with another person or a group of people to come to a solution that is suitable for both people.  Doing this off the cuff can be difficult, preparation is a must and having a process or methodology to follow will also help.  Influencing differs in that it is about bringing people around to your way of thinking.  It can be used alongside negotiation effectively to get to a win win outcome.

Target Audience: This workshop may be of interest to individuals who would like to improve influencing and negotiating skills in the workplace.

Working with Change – 2 March, 09:30-13:00

Change is the only constant at work and without it we cannot move forward. However, most of us resist change to a greater or lesser extent. Understanding how change works is key to successful change initiatives, and managers need to be able to embrace change and manage their team through change in a way that gains buy-in. This course will help participants gain a greater understanding of the change process and the different phases of change.

Target Audience: This course is for managers who are introducing change in their area and need to plan the process and effectively manage their team through change.

3MT™ Competition: Calling all Postgraduate Researchers!

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT™) Competition is back in 2020 for another year of PGR research in bite-sized presentations. We invite you to get involved, either as a participant or member of the audience.

3MT™ is an excellent opportunity for PGRs to develop and improve their public engagement skills. With three minutes and one slide, PGRs can consolidate their research into an engaging and accessible manner for a non-specialist audience.

Registration for the competition opened on 13 January 2020 and closes on 21 February 2020. Participants and potential participants can come along to an information session on Wednesday 19 February 2020, at 2:00pm in the Gilchrist Postgraduate Club seminar room.

Preliminary heats will take place on Monday through Thursday 2-5 March 2020, 2:00PM each day in the Gilchrist Postgraduate Club seminar room, and the final will take place on Friday 13 March 2020 at 3:00PM in the Senate room. All are welcome!
