RAEng success for Glasgow researchers

Three of the 18 new Research Fellows announced by the Royal Academy of Enginnering were UofG researchers.

The new Fellow are:

  • Dr Richard Paul Middlemiss for his Microscopic Semi-Absolute Pendulum Gravimeter;
  • Dr Ross William Millar for Germanium-Tin Quantum Detectors
  • Dr Marta Vignola for Eco-engineered Biofilters for Sustainable Removal of Pesticides in Drinking Water.

 

UK-China Emerging Technologies Conference held at Glasgow

The conference, organised jointly by the University of Glasgow and its strategic partner, UESTC (University of Electronic Science and Technology of China) was addressed by a number of leading wireless communication experts from across the world.  It was sponsored by IEEE COMSOC.

 

Public Lecture by US Historian and Political Economist Robert Brenner

Sociology, in association with the University's Socialist Theory and Movements Research Network, has announced a public lecture open to all staff and students by the leading US historian and political economist, Robert Brenner.

Title: "From Feudal Stagnation to Capitalist Dynamism: Uneven Development, Late Development, and Uneven and Combined Development"
Venue: Lecture Theatre, Sir Charles Wilson Building, 1 University Avenue
Date/Time: Thursday 5 September at 5.00 for a 5.30 start.

For anyone wanting to pursue the themes of Brenner's lecture in more detail, a two-day international conference on uneven and combined development, organised by the  Socialist Theory and Movements Research Network, in association with Historical Materialism journal, will be held at the Renfield St. Stephens Centre, Bath Street, on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th September. Registration is necessary for this event and can be done at this link:
