Employee and Organisational Development (EOD) launch their 2019-20 Learning & Development provision with a range of development opportunities for all staff

As part of the Performance and Development Review process, we encourage all staff to discuss their career development plans with their line manager.

The new 2019-20 learning and development provision can support that process by providing a variety of professional development opportunities. We have a range of workshops for staff to select from focusing on developing yourself, communication, managing people and working with change as well as other topical themes. New workshops will be added throughout the year so we encourage staff to check our website regularly for new opportunities.

Our First Line Management and Team Leading Programmes will shortly open for nominations. Please refer to our website for further information.

The Learning and Development provision can be accessed through our website. To book onto a course please login to the HR Self Service Portal via HR Self Service.

Additional booking information can be found on our website.

New Chief Executive at the Queen Margaret Union

Following an extensive selection process, Margaret Davison has been appointed to the role at a crucial time for the organisation. This is a critical appointment and Margaret will be tasked with leading the organisation following a period of major change over the last six months. She has held a number of leadership roles including several years at seniorlevel within the New Zealand and Scottish public sectors.

Courtney Hughes, QMU President, said: "Margaret will provide outstanding leadership and has extensive experience around financial, people and change management. She'll bring a real focus around supporting student leaders and implementing our new strategic plan."

Margaret Davison said: "I'm delighted and excited to be joining the QMU at this important time. It's a great organisation with a long and proud heritage. The QMU can play a key role in enriching the student experience at the University of Glasgow and I'm determined to ensure we have the kind of impact in the future that our members deserve."

Computing Science Launches the Glasgow University Software Service

Are you in need of a helping hand to develop software solutions to new or existing software projects?

The School of Computing Science is launching the GU Software Service to enable you to access and leverage software development skills and expertise to further your goals and projects.

Run from within the School of Computing, the service is led by Dr. Tim Storer and Omar Tufayl, students and staff members to help develop quality software development and consulting work. The aim is to offer a service for customers within the University who are looking for software developers, but can't justify hiring on a permanent basis, or contracting a commercial consultancy.

Complementing the School’s existing Hackyhour, Compumatch, and Team Project support for external software development, the service will be available at a competitive cost basis and will take a hands on approach, liaising with you to find your current pain points and how they can be addressed with software, either by extending your existing setup or designing and developing custom solutions to cater to your requirements. A software manager will be assigned to your project who will source and manage developers to deliver as per your specifications.

To express your interest, please contact us directly at compsci-guss@glasgow.ac.uk and we’ll get back to you to arrange a further discussion of your needs and how we can help.
