In response to feedback from the 2018 staff survey, the Senior Management Group (SMG) has committed to improving their visibility and accessibility.

As a first step towards improving visibility, on Monday 19th August Christine Barr (Executive Director of Human Resources) launched the first in a series of new networking events for all UofG Staff. Attendees were able to spend time with colleagues from across the University, including Professor Frank Coton - Vice Principal (Academic Planning & Technological Innovation), Professor Miles Padgett - Vice Principal (Research) and Rachel Sandison - Vice Principal (External Relations).

SMG networking event The discussions revealed some interesting fun facts about our SMG colleagues, while also allowing staff to learn more about the type of work each SMG member does. Professor Frank Coton outlined his strategic responsibilities which include planning & budgeting and Professor Miles Padgett discussed his work on supporting early career researchers. Attendees also heard from Rachel Sandison on her role which includes student recruitment and admissions; marketing and reputation management and Development and Alumni. Attendees were also able to share their views across a range of topics from communication and engagement and the management of change through to wellbeing, work-life balance and our culture and values.

The feedback so far on the event has been positive, with staff commenting on the format and level of engagement as well as the benefit of hearing from SMG members in person.

Future events are open to all UofG staff and we encourage as many colleagues as possible to come along throughout the series. Attending one of these sessions will enable you not only to meet members of SMG but also to expand your professional network and meet new people from different parts of the University.

The next networking event is planned for Monday 7th October (13:00 to 14:00) and we invite you to register your interest via haveyoursay@glasgow.ac.uk
