Applications open for Ferguson Bequest Committee

The Ferguson Bequest was left to the University by Professor Tom Ferguson to foster the social side of University life.

The Ferguson Bequest Committee would like to encourage applications for funding to be considered at its meeting in May. The Committee is keen to promote any type of activity that encourages staff to socialise together and some suggestions so far are:

  • Campaigns across campus that might encourage staff participation in sport/relaxation activities
  • A wider range of ticketed events with emphasis on celebrating the culture of Glasgo
  • Gaelic language events
  • Events and initiatives with a sustainability theme

Applications forms can be found at: https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/courtoffice/fergusonbequest/applicationforfunding/

Summer Student Startout Space Survey

The University is considering creating a temporary space over the summer for use by students. We would like to know what University of Glasgow students think about the idea and whether there is a critical mass of students who would participate. We also want interested students to help us shape it and make it a success, so we have created a survey here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd5jxVeFtl0xykEWWyvgfRDlyK65Ow0eyq4QzgdjurqPzhQHw/viewform

The space would be:

  • for student entrepreneurs based in Glasgow over the summer who want to take their very first step in the startup world.
  • available on a flexible basis to meet, generate and test ideas.
  • used to learn some of the skills needed for running a startup.
  • temporary, existing over the summer of 2019 (approximately mid-June to mid-August).

Our objectives are:

  1. To test out ideas for and feasibility of a permanent start out space as part of the University's rebuild programme.
  2. Create a community of entrepreneurs that can feed into the University's established later stage startup programmes and external incubator programmes.

If you would like to know more about the plans for the space, or change whether you receive further emails, please contact us:
