A Night of Chinese songs - 5 October

The Confucius Institute will mark its 5th anniversary with a series of events in October, starting with a free concert by the award-winning Student Choir of Nankai University.

A Night of Chinese Songs will be held in the University Chapel, 7-9pm on Wednesday 5 October 2016 and will feature a diverse repertoire of Chinese and Chinese minority folk classics. It's free to attend, you just need to register via EventBrite

Following a prestigious choral tradition at Nankai University dating back to the 1930s, the Student Choir was founded in 1995. The members are all undergraduate, postgraduate and international students of the University.

The group has won major international choral awards, including the highest award at the 1998 International Choral Festival, three gold medals at the 2004 World Olympic Choral Competition, and top prizes at the First and Second National College Student Performance Festivals in China.

In 2009, the Student Choir performed on the stage of China's National Grand Theatre, representing the highest honor of national recognition in China.
