GLOBAL GLASGOW 2025

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to a special issue of Connect, and to formally announce the launch of our new international strategy, Global Glasgow 2025.

The new strategy articulates our global ambitions, and supports the vision conveyed in our institutional strategy, World Changers Together, World Changing Glasgow 2025, launched in April of last year.

Our ambitions are bold and focus on the importance of international collaboration to help address the global challenges, and opportunities, of our time. I am delighted to share this strategy with you today in this special edition of our newsletter, as well as details of the exciting partners’ event that we will be running in May to support the launch.

However, despite the positive nature of this issue, I feel that I must also acknowledge the tragic and heart-breaking war currently taking being waged in Ukraine. Shock, sadness, and outrage are being felt across our community both here in Glasgow and around the world, and I want to reinforce our solidarity with the people of Ukraine.

As the University’s Refugee & Asylum Seeker Champion, you have my promise that we are doing everything we can to aid those that are displaced by this, and other conflicts around the globe, including the significant expansion of our Humanitarian Scholarships, further support for the Council for At-Risk Academics, and collective activity across the UK higher education sector. For more information on our institutional response and how you can support those students impacted, please visit our dedicated webpages, Ukraine: our response.

Best wishes,
Rachel Sandison
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement)
