Music in the University offers a free public concert series consisting of of lunchtime and evening concerts throughout the academic year. Many of these concerts are generously supported by the University's Ferguson Bequest. In addition, the long established McEwen Bequest enables us to commission a new work which is premiered within the concert series each year featuring established Scottish musicians as well as emerging young artists. Lunchtime concerts funded by either of these Bequest funds are free of charge.

Our final Thursday Lunchtime recital of 2023 sees the return of Scottish Opera and their incredible Emerging Artists. The Scottish Opera Emerging Artists programme offers young talent a period of full-time work with the Company to help launch their careers. This season they include returning mezzo soprano Lea Shaw (Il trittico 2023) as Associate Artist, along with Ukrainian soprano Inna Husieva, South African tenor Monwabisi Lindi, Scottish baritone Ross Cumming and repetiteur José Javier Ucendo Malo.

Emerging Artist singers perform in a number of this season’s productions and tours, and in lunchtime recitals. They are supported by Scottish Opera’s Emerging Artist Benefactors and Elizabeth Salvesen.

Our Thursday Professional Lunchtime Series is held in the University Concert Hall which is situated in the Main Building (Gilbert Scott), just below the Hunterian Museum.
You can access the Concert Hall through three different doors:
-West Quad through the door to the toilets and Hunterian lift
-East Quad entering through the Hunterian Staircase door
-East Quad entering through the external corridor to Hunter Halls

Tickets
We currently have no requirement for pre-booking your FREE ticket! Just turn up at 12.45pm to ensure your seat. Once the Concert Hall is full to capacity, we will be closing doors. Please note the capacity of the Concert Hall is 128 people. Latecomers will not be admitted.
