Join the exceptional talents of chorus expert Albert Horne and mezzo Andrea Baker in a gospel workshop following the Sing Sistah Sing! performance.

Who is it for? All voices are welcome, no experience necessary. All students, staff and visitors welcome, anyone can come! Please sign up to secure your space, there are limited spaces.

Venue: The workshop will take place in the University Memorial Chapel, in the Main Building of the University of Glasgow.

Timings: We begin at 4.30pm, please arrive 15mins before we start. The workshop will end at 5.45pm.

About the leaders

Albert Horne is Chorus Master & Conductor at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden (Hessian State Theatre of Wiesbaden) in Germany. He obtained a Masters Degree in Music from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, studying conducting with Maestra Sian Edwards. In 2012 he was Chorus Master for George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess with the Berliner Philharmoniker, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, at the Philharmonie in Berlin. He was Chorus Master and Conductor for Cape Town Opera from 2007-2014, and under his leadership the Cape Town Opera Chorus was voted Best Opera Chorus of the Year by an international panel of judges at the inaugural International Opera Awards in London in 2013.

Andrea Baker, an artistic trailblazer, is the first African American to sing Fricka, Waltraute, Erda and 2nd Norn in Wagner’s great Ring Cycle in the Chinese premiere of the work at the Beijing Arts Festival, the first African American Carmen in Australia at the Sydney Opera House and the first African American to sing the role of Ortrud in the South Korean premiere of Wagner’s Lohengrin at the Daegu Opera Festival.
