Undertaking a collaborative dissertation was a really valuable experience

Undertaking a collaborative dissertation was a really valuable experience. I felt that I not only had extra support throughout the dissertation process when compared to others not doing collaborative dissertations, but that I was able to benefit from multiple perspectives
including my academic supervisor, my point of contact within the organisation, and a learning coordinator. Writing up a Lay Report was a great exercise and I feel like I have a better understanding of the application of the things I’ve learned throughout the past year thanks to the opportunity to work alongside an organisation and produce something they can use practically. Everyone working in the organisation as well as research participants welcomed me and enriched the entire experience. I feel that I’ve learned a lot and made
valuable connections all of which I’m sure made my dissertation better than if I had not undertaken a collaborative one.

- Antonia Nihsen, MSc Global Health

I worked with Antonia over a few months to evaluate our service for new parents.  She attended the project regularly and got to know staff, service users and the service itself, which is really reflected in the quality of her research data and final report.  We are using the findings of her evaluation to secure a more sustainable future for the service.
