This afternoon event will provide a valuable opportunity for critical reflection and knowledge exchange on interdisciplinary research in the social sciences and beyond, including a capacity building workshop for engaging in interdisciplinary research.

The event will have two main components. We will showcase specific interdisciplinary projects from researchers, who will share critical reflections on the challenges and resulting interventions in undertaking their interdisciplinary research activities. This will be followed by a Q & A session, where guests and speakers can further discuss various elements, such as research design, communicating across disciplines, leading an interdisciplinary team, managing ethical concerns and publishing.

From this initial session, participants will be invited to take part in an interactive workshop with an applied focus. Through groupwork, guests will apply their different disciplinary perspectives to real life examples of current social issues. This will challenge participants to work with colleagues across academic disciplines to translate research ideas and approaches into collaborative interdisciplinary endeavours. Outputs from each of the groups will be collected and collated for a final group discussion.

Agenda:

1-4pm Showcase and workshop

4-5pm Networking drinks reception

Ultimately, the event seeks to inspire participants to bridge disciplinary boundaries, collaborate effectively, and translate innovative ideas into impactful interdisciplinary ventures that address pressing social issues.
