UKRI's Strategy 2022-2027 includes five cross-cutting themes which will provide a focus for interdisciplinary and cross-council opportunities (around £75M research funding earmarked for each theme). These themes include Building a Secure and Resilient World, which recently closed its call for a 5 year Coordinating Hub. We expect further calls for research projects in this area over the next year, and expect that these will require interdisciplinary teams spanning multiple research council remits.

Core topics under the UKRI theme include:

  • global order in a time of change
  • technologies for resilience, security and defence
  • resilient and secure supply chains
  • behavioural and cultural resilience
  • strengthening resilience in natural and built environments

We are aware of multiple clusters of relevant expertise across the University, and want to provide an opportunity for people to connect with one another, recognising there are potential funding opportunities on the horizon, but without the time pressure of a specific call.

We are therefore hosting an online networking event on Thursday, 21 September 2023 from 13:30-15:00. This session will bring together staff from across the University of Glasgow research community.

Academic speakers will introduce some of the relevant expertise in core research areas or groups, including Adam Smith Business School, Communications Sensing and Imaging, Cyber Security, Geography and Environmental Sciences, Glasgow Centre for International Law and Security, and Politics and International Relations. This will be followed by facilitated discussion to identify areas of shared interest (or gaps, where people would like us to prioritise establishing links with other institutions).

As part of the registration process you will be asked a few questions about your School or College affiliation, current research area/interests etc. This is to help us design the event and make it as useful as possible. We strongly encourage all attendees to attend the full duration of the event.

We look forward to seeing you!
