Short Description

This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to engage in molecular & cellular biosciences.

Assessment

The course will be assessed by a 2-hour examination (75%) and one in-course assessment consisting of a class test (25%) involving the critical analysis of scientific data.

Course Aims

The aim of the option is to provide students with the fundamental knowledge, and to introduce them to key concepts, necessary to engage in molecular & cellular biosciences. 

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

■ Discuss current approaches and methodologies undertaken by researchers in molecular and cellular biology;

■ Apply advanced core molecular and cellular biology principals to key questions in the field; 

■ Evaluate the advantages and limitations of commonly used techniques in molecular and cellular biology;

■ Evaluate the relative merits of using different experimental systems to address key questions in the field.
