Biography
Louise Lawson is a Lecturer in Urban Studies and Social Policy in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow. Her research has focused on policy responses to health inequalities, urban regeneration, poverty, gender, and the dynamics of women’s work, with a particular interest in the social science of the everyday.
Louise's PhD by publication examined theories of poverty and power in the context of urban regeneration: 'Community regeneration in Glasgow: perspectives of poverty and power'.
Louise was lead qualitative Research Fellow on the GoWell Research and Learning programme—a major mixed-methods study of housing and regeneration in Glasgow—and has published extensively in this field.
In 2020, she was awarded a Nuffield Foundation grant as Principal Investigator for a study on women in multiple low-paid employment and is currently developing a further mixed-methods project on women’s employment trajectories and unpaid care.
Her research is policy-oriented and activist in nature: she is an active member of the Centre for Public Policy, and contributes to national policy reviews and consultations.
