CEES welcomed Mr Dmitry Omelchenko from Region Research Centre, Ul'yanovsk State University as Dalglish Visiting Fellow 2010 from 20 May to 13 June.  He writes :

"My name is Dmitry Omelchenko. I'm 27 years old and have come here from Russia, Ulyanovsk University. After graduating (I am a profession ad maker, copywriter) I have now decided to undertake postgraduate study.  As it is not possible to take a doctorate in advertising studies I have chosen sociology and gender studies as my future point of interest.  I have always been interested in movies so I decided to link these two interests and after a while I came up with my proposed thesis topic “Representation of masculinity in western and modern Russian movies:   influence of globalization on images of men in different cultures”. So far I have almost completed the first, theoretical, part of my research.  I hope that here in Glasgow I will succeed in finishing it. For the most part my interest is in the area of Hollywood moves.  It is no secret that the whole world gets images of what is right and what is wrong via American cinema.  The question here is how hard is it to resist those images, or is it important at all.  These are the kind of questions I am interested in exploring."
