How to Apply

Applications for our 2025/26 in-person Pre-sessional English courses are now open.

Before applying, check your recommended start date. Your start date and course length will depend on your current English level and the level required for your degree. All courses finish on 28 August. Places are subject to availability.

Application Guidelines

If you have any problems or questions with your application, please contact us.

What documents do I need?

You will need to provide:

  • A copy of your passport
  • Your University of Glasgow offer letter
  • A copy of your Secure English language Test (SELT) result

If you do not have all of these documents when you submit your application, you can still apply. Any missing documents can be provided later, as long as this is done before the application deadline.

 

What is a SELT and how do I get one?

A Secure English Language Test (SELT) is an internationally recognised and approved English language test.

If you believe you may be eligible to provide alternative evidence of English language proficiency, please contact us for advice.

 

Do my supporting documents need to be submitted online?

Yes. All supporting documents should be uploaded as part of your online application.

If you experience technical difficulties uploading your documents, please contact us.

 

What happens if I submit a false document?

We will refuse any application where there is evidence that a false document has been submitted — even if the document is not directly relevant to the application, or if the applicant was unaware that it was false.

A false document includes:

  • A genuine document that has been altered or tampered with

  • A counterfeit document (completely false)

  • A genuine document used by someone impersonating the rightful holder

  • A genuine document that has been fraudulently obtained or issued

  • A genuine document containing a falsified or counterfeit visa or endorsement

Information about applications refused due to false documentation may be shared with other University of Glasgow departments or with UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). This could affect future applications to study in the UK.

What if my academic offer is not for the University of Glasgow?

If you intend to study at an institution other than the University of Glasgow after completing the pre-sessional course, we will need to verify your academic offer before your application can be processed.

Please follow the steps below:

Step 1: Upload a copy of your offer letter as part of your Pre-sessional English application.

Step 2: Contact your university and ask them to email us directly at arts-EAS@glasgow.ac.uk from an official university email address, confirming the details of your academic offer.

Your application will be placed on hold until we receive verification from your chosen university. If verification is not received by the relevant application deadline, your application will be rejected.

How do I fill in the application form?

These notes are designed to help you complete your application form accurately. They are also available in the Help section of the online application. If you experience any difficulties, please contact arts-eas@glasgow.ac.uk.

  • Name and Date of Birth: Enter your name and date of birth exactly as they appear on your passport. Double-check spelling and format carefully.
  • Contact Details: Provide a correspondence address where all application-related communications, including your offer letter, will be sent. If your address changes at any point, notify us immediately.
  • Programme Selection Criteria – Academic Career: When asked to select your ‘Academic Career’, choose Lifelong Learning from the drop-down menu.
  • Programme Selection Criteria – Admit Term: Select the correct academic year for your course. Academic years run from September to August.

Example: For the July 2026 Entry course, select the academic year 2025–26.

  • Course choice: Choose EAS, followed by the specific course you intend to study (e.g., “November Entry”).

What happens after I complete my application?

Once we receive your application, we will contact you if any additional information is required.

Approximately three weeks before your course start date, you will be able to register online. We will notify you by email when registration opens.

During online registration, you will be provided with a username and password to access the MyCampus system. Once your registration is complete, you will be able to pay your course fees.

What should I do if my circumstances change?

Please contact us immediately if any of the following occur:

  • Your personal details change (e.g., a new passport number)

  • Your academic offer becomes unconditional

  • You decide to withdraw from the course

Keeping us updated ensures your application and registration remain accurate and up to date.

Can I apply for the Pre-sessional if I have studied in the UK before?

Yes, you can. When applying, please include the following documents from your previous UK study:

  • Previous CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies)

  • Previous visa

  • Final course report

  • A statement confirming that you will apply for your new visa from outside the UK

If you are unable to provide any of these documents (for example, if you plan to apply for your new visa from within the UK), please upload a brief statement explaining why you cannot provide the document or why you will apply from within the UK.
