HEAD AND NECK CANCER / HEADSpACE

Lead Contacts: Professor David Conway/Dr Alex McMahon

Overview

Our head and neck cancer epidemiology research is focused on understanding and addressing socioeconomic inequalities across the cancer continuum from quantitying the disease burden and trends, to assessing incidence and risk factors, to investigating/screening interventions and health system factors, and to studying outcomes and survival.

HEADSpAcE Data Centre

We are a founding member in the establishment of the International Agency for Research, World Health Organisation (IARC-WHO). HEADSpAcE Data Centre link https://headspace.iarc.fr/

This resource includes well-annotated clinical and exposure data alongside biospecimens from thousands of patients with head and neck cancer and control participants.

We have contributed to the data centre though our participation in the Head and Neck cancer in South America and Europe (HEADSpAcE) multicentre cohort study funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 Framework; and the Alcohol-Related Cancers and Genetic Susceptibility in Europe (ARCAGE) multicentre case-control study. We lead on projects related to socioeconomic inequalities, health systems and are exploring the role of the oral microbiome.
