Research interests

The focus of my investigations is on the mathematical modelling of real-world problems within a biological context, which, may be divided into two strands. The first addresses theoretical, modelling, and computational issues of specific classes of biomechanical problems. The second focuses on the constitutive characterisation of markedly heterogeneous materials distinguished by different characteristic length scales.

Possible PhD projects concern the mathematical modelling of problems relevant to healthcare from a theoretical and/or computational perspective.
Project topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Mechano-chemo-electro mechanical couplings in nerve and heart tissues.
  • Cell-matrix systems (e.g. focal adhesions).
  • Growth and remodelling in soft and hard tissues.
  • Asymptotic methods for composite structures.
