Spatiotemporal smothing of Magnetoencephalography data

Abstract

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a non-invasive technique which measures the electromagnetic activity in the brain by recording the magnetic fields outside the head. Data are collected at a very high temporal resolution by means of sensors placed on an helmet. The goal is typically the identification o spatiotemporal components and changes in the signal that correspond to certain cognitive processes manipulated by means of stimuli in the experiment. Data are commonly affected by noise and great variability across replicates of the experiment. Filtering techniques and averaging across many replicates are usually adopted to analyze such data. The talk will focus on a spatiotemporal smoothing approach to investigate the structure of the response to the stimulus.
