Biography

Stefan joined CREATe in November 2022 as a postdoctoral researcher in platform regulation. He obtained his PhD from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy, in October 2023.

His thesis explored regulatory responses to online misinformation from a deliberative democracy perspective. During his doctoral studies, he coordinated the EUI Information Society Working Group and was a Fulbright Schuman visiting researcher at Berkeley Law.

Stefan qualified as a lawyer in Romania and for nine years specialised in human rights litigation, working at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), the Romanian Government Agent before the ECtHR and the European Roma Rights Centre.

Stefan’s interests lie at the intersection of platform regulation and human rights law, with a focus on online speech governance.
