Jen Ang was appointed as Professor in Practice in 2024 at the Glasgow Open (GO Justice) Centre, where she is responsible for developing and supervising legal clinical education opportunities for students in social justice law. She is also an Affiliated Researcher with the University of Glasgow’s Centre for Public Policy and an Atlantic Fellow for Social and Economic Equity at the London School of Economics

Jen is Founding Director of Lawmanity, a legal practice that tackles inequalities in the law by working with people-led movements to secure positive change, and former co-Founding Director of the human rights and equalities legal charity JustRight Scotland.

She is an experienced human rights lawyer and activist, qualified to practice in Scotland, England and Wales, and New York State, and a legal expert on immigration and asylum, violence against women and girls and the rights of survivors of torture and trafficking. Jen is regularly invited to speak, and contribute to research, policy and publications in these areas.

Jen’s Scottish Government advisory roles include: Member of the First Minister’s National Advisory Council on Women and Girls (2022-2026) and Member of the Women’s Justice Leadership Panel (2022).

Her ongoing work to support civil society campaigning and strategic change using the law includes: Chair of the Scottish Strategic Legal Advice Committee (SLAC) of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association (ILPA) (2024- ), Strategic Legal Advisory Board, Black Equity Organisation (2024- ), Legal Advisory Group, Right to Remain (2024- ), Pro Bono Strategic Advisor, East and Southeast Asian (ESA Scotland) and Founding Chair of the Board, Settled (2019-2024).

Jen is interested in exploring the relationship between law and social change, and in the role of lawyers and the justice system in amplifying or challenging systemic inequality, and in creating or tackling barriers to progressive social change.

She is also interested in examining the role of clinical legal education in building and teaching anti-racist and anti-oppressive forms of legal practice, and in building connections of mutuality and trust between academic institutions and the communities that host and support them.
